RESEARCH: AAA International Visiting Researchers Programme

ADS invites applications from ADS researchers for the Amsterdam Academic Alliance (AAA) Funded International Visiting Researchers Programme.

The aim of the programme is to further international collaborations between ADS and either Insight Ireland, Tsinghua University or Wuhan University. The deadline for applications is Friday 15 September.

RESEARCH: Sabine Niederer Appointed Lecturer in Visual Methodologies

On 04 July, the Board of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences appointed Sabine Niederer lecturer of Visual Methodologies. This new position will focus on image as a tool for research and will lead to new insights and applications for practical research in fashion, media, design and digital technology.

“In this lectureship, image is also a research tool for mapping social issues, exploring solutions, studying data sets from all sides, and communicating critical concepts and insights visually,” said Niederer.

RESEARCH: Marcel Worring and Stevan Rudinac Awarded Funding for SCORE Project

Smart Cities and Open Data Reuse (SCORE) is an EU project of ADS, DataLab (City of Amsterdam), and many cities in Northern Europe: Dordrecht, Aberdeen, Bradford, Ghent, Gothenburg, Aarhus, and Hamburg.

It will fund a PhD student with Marcel Worring and Stevan Rudinac (UvA) who, in collaboration with the HvA, will work on several challenging data-driven problems in Amsterdam as well as the other cities mentioned. The project will start in January 2018.

EDUCATION: Computable Awards Nomination for Amsterdam School of Data Science

We are delighted to announce that the Amsterdam School of Data Science has been successfully nominated in the 2017 Computable Awards. The award nomination is for ‘ICT Educator of the Year’, the winner of which will be announced on 31 October.

Call for Proposals: National Library of the Netherlands, Researcher-in-Residence Program 2018

The National Library of the Netherlands (KB), is seeking proposals for its Researcher-in-residence programme, offering a unique opportunity to early career researchers to work in the library with the Digital Humanities team and KB data. They are specifically looking for academic researchers with a background in Humanities, Social Sciences, Computer Science or Artificial Intelligence for two tracks: open and information extraction.

COMMIT2DATA Programme Call: DATA2PERSON - Big Data & Health

The call, on behalf of NWO, ZonMW, and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, aims to stimulate Big Data Research to develop effective, efficient, and responsible personal empowerment methods for a future healthy society. The focus is on the way in which Data Science can make a contribution to a personalised offer and possibilities for the self/joint management of the individual. Consortiums of academics and public/private parties can apply for funding.
