July at AUC: course selection & housing

Dear ,

The time is nigh! You are almost ready to embark on your AUC journey. In July, you will be asked to submit your course preferences and finalise housing practicalities before your housing contract starts on 1 August. In this e-mail, we also instruct you on how to get in touch with the previous tenant of the apartment you are moving into.

▶ COURSE REGISTRATION

Submit your course preferences by 1 August

On 1 July, you should have received an email from AUC's Admissions Office asking you to submit your course preferences. Please note that since it is your first semester at AUC, you will be asked to indicate your course preferences using a drop-down list of available options. This is to ensure that you can only select courses that are open to incoming students. These course options may be different than what you indicated in your initial study plan when applying. The deadline to submit your course preferences is 1 August. You can register at any time until this date; course selection does not work on a first come, first served basis.

▶ HOUSING

Completing the housing process by 5 July

Completing the housing process by 5 July

All housing contracts for new first-years will begin on 1 August 2024. DUWO is the housing corporation that owns and manages the AUC student residences. After selecting a room from the room selection system (uh.room.nl), there are two weeks to complete the entire housing process with DUWO. Only once you have signed your contract and paid your first month’s rent, will your contract be final. Please mind: if you have already had a chance to select a room, then you should complete the contract signing process by 5 July 2024, or otherwise your housing offer is at risk of being cancelled after this date. Rest assured; AUC will first contact you before your housing offer is revoked.

Late applicant? Or no room yet?

If you have received a late offer to study at AUC, or if you not yet had a chance to book a room, then please be on the lookout for an email from uh.room.nl from next week onwards. Rooms will now be allocated on a case-by-case basis, and you will receive a room offer directly through the housing platform. You will then have one week to complete the process. We aim to make all late housing offers between 10 – 22 July, so that everyone is still on time to move in by 1 August.

Moving into the student residences

Once you have paid and signed, your housing contract will be complete. Moving in can take place from 1 August onwards, and therefore DUWO will arrange key pick-up days in Science Park around that date. You can expect a message about this in the week of 24 July 2024. Should these dates not work for you, or if you plan to arrive later, then it's also possible to pick up your keys on an alternative date and time by making an individual appointment with DUWO. We recommend that all students move in at least a few weeks before the start of the Introduction Week (26 August - 30 August 2024) in order to have time to buy furniture and focus on getting settled in.

Getting in touch with the current tenant

Avoid having to buy new furniture and get in touch with the current tenant to find out if there's pieces of interior that you'd like to adopt.

In order to get in contact with the current tenant of the room you selected, you first need to sign your contract with DUWO. Once your contract has been signed and you have an account on duwo.nl you can send a message to DUWO asking to be put in contact with the current tenant. Please follow these steps:
  1. Go to the DUWO contact form (you need to be logged in).
  2. As Subject, please put 'AUC'.
  3. In the explanation, please explain that you are the new tenant of the room and include a way for the current tenant to contact you (email or phone number).
  4. DUWO will forward your message to the current tenant and they will initiate contact.
  5. If the current tenant is interested in contacting you, you can expect an answer after about a week, as DUWO can take a few business days to process your request.
