Upcoming in May: Housing, immigration & Social Kick-offs

Dear ,

We hope this email finds you well! You may notice that the WhatsApp Group and our community will be growing as the regular-deadline applicants will soon accept their offers.

In May, the biggest decision you'll have to make is about housing. Housing selection for Early-bird applicants who want to live in a single room or 2-person shared room will take place from 15 to 17 May. You'll be able to log in on 15 May to view the various rooms and select a room from 16 to 17 May. Please remember that housing selection is on a first-come, first-served basis. Those who signed up to live in a 4-person shared apartment will be invited for a mixer to find a roommate match; the mixer takes place on 13 May.  Please keep in mind that all students are guaranteed a room.

▶ HOUSING TIMELINES

Housing selection: 4-person apartment

If you want to live in a 4-person apartment, you'll need to do the following:

  • 5 May 23.59 (CEST): Deadline to register for the 4-person apartment using this form
  • 13 May 18.00 (CEST): Join the online mixer for 4-person apartments
  • 16 May at 16.00 (CEST): If there's a roommate match, confirm your spot by 16 May. If there's no match, prepare to join the second mixer on 3 June.
  • Before 31 May 12.00 (CEST): If you have a roommate match in this round, sign your housing contract (digital), upload the necessary documents and pay the first month's rent. If you don't complete this step, you risk losing your selected room!
  • Before 24 June 12.00 (CEST): For those who need extra time to find a roommate match, the deadline to sign the housing contract will be 24 June.
  • From 1 August: Collect your keys and move into your 4-person apartment!
You can view a diagram of the housing procedure here, or you can visit the link below to read more information.

Read more about the student residences

While you prepare to select your room, keep in mind that the answers to many of the most frequently asked questions can be found on the student residences section of our website. The housing webpage provides information on the various room types, price indications, floor plans and videos of the different layouts so you have a better idea of what to expect when choosing your room. While more information will be available when you log in to room.nl, it will be helpful to review the housing information prior to making a selection and moving in.

Visas & residence permits for international students from outside the EU

If you're coming from outside the European Union, you may need an entry visa (MVV) and/or residence permit (VVR) depending on your nationality. If you need an entry visa or residence permit, the University of Amsterdam's Immigration Office will start the process for you and you should receive information from them about the documents you need to submit (and how to do so) starting 15 May. The deadline for uploading the documents for those who need an entry visa (MVV) and residence permit (VVR) is 1 June 2024. The deadline for uploading the documents for those who need only a residence permit (VVR) is 1 July 2024.
