Dear students,

Welcome (back) to campus! As a resident of the AUC dorms, we're sending some nice-to-know updates to all community members on how you can meet your neighbours, new residents joining our community and the string representative system.

Tonight: the string dinner!

Don’t forget that the annual Introduction Week string dinner will take place in the dorms tonight from 18.00 onward! All new first-years will be given enough meal kits to feed all AUC students tonight. So please join the dinner as it will also be an important moment to discuss your shared balcony, living room and the string representative for next year.

The string representative system

Each string has a "string representative" who is the key-holder for the shared living room or shared balcony on your string. The representative can open and close the room for communal use, and they also take the lead in making the space as nice as possible for all tenants. Moreover, the string representative is the first point of contact for AUC and DUWO. During tonight’s string dinner, your string can also renew/elect/discuss the string representative position. For more information, please see the information about the string representative system via the link below.

AUC Pop Up Free Store: "sold" out!

While meant to run until the end of the week, the AUC pop-up free store is now completely sold out! All items donated have been collected and found new homes. We would like to thank everyone who played a part in making the initiative a success by encouraging reuse and reducing waste.

Helping fellow students find housing in Amsterdam
At the beginning of each academic year, there are always a few additional rooms in the student residences empty due to last-minute cancellations or changes of plans. Given the current housing crisis in Amsterdam, we’re thankful that we can continue to guarantee affordable housing to all AUC students for three years. We also recognise that it’s a privilege, and with this privilege in mind, we want to do our part in helping fellow university students secure housing. This means that we will be offering all empty spaces in single and two-person shared apartments (but not in four-person shared apartments) to students who are currently homeless and on waiting lists at the University of Amsterdam, VU Amsterdam and Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences.

This means that if you are in a two-person shared apartment and do not yet have a roommate (or your roommate is not arriving in the foreseeable future), then you will be assigned another (very happy!) roommate who is studying at one of the Amsterdam-area universities. Please note that whenever a new roommate is assigned, you will be informed by AUC or DUWO. Please help us make all new tenants feel welcome!

Questions? Contact us

We'd like to thank you once again for helping to make the student residences a welcoming place for all tenants. If you have questions or concerns about any of the topics above, please feel free to send an email to info@auc.nl

Kind regards,
