 | Call for Papers: International conference on Law, Empire, and Gender in Muslim Societies | This conference aims to bring together scholars working on colonial law in Muslim contexts who are interested in ‘gender-coded law’ (i.e. all legal domains that automatically invoke connotations of gender).
The conference will be held at the University of Amsterdam on December 19 and 20, 2024. It will be a small (max. 15 participants) research seminar/workshop. Applications for participation, including 250-word abstracts and a 100-word brief biography should be sent to m.voorhoeve@uva.nl by July 1, 2024. If selected, the conference organization provides for travel and accommodation. The conference will be held at the Allard Pierson Museum in Amsterdam.

PhD course Royal Danish Academy: The Versatile Interior | This PhD course aims to explore interiors as versatile, ambiguous and complex phenomena. Through architectural history, social history, design, art and anthropology, multifaceted and even sometimes paradoxical aspects of interiors will be unfolded.
Two central questions will be addressed:
• How can interiors be comprehended in all their complexity?
• How can the ambiguity of interiors be framed through theoretical perspectives?

What role do historians play in 'making'? For whom and to whom do they speak? Various historians and television makers debate these and other questions.
