The International Judicial Governance project examines the legal, policy, and normative issues raised by the operation of entities entrusted by states and international organisations with governance tasks in respect of international courts and tribunals.
The project was launched with a conference jointly organised by Leiden University and ACIL.

The ‘International Economic Law and Security Interests’ conference, jointly organised by ACIL researchers Stephan Schill and Geraldo Vidigal with the European Society of International Law Interest Group on International Economic Law covered a wide range of current issues related to the resurgence of national interests in international economic relations.

After their SGEL lecture on 16 September 2019, Grietje Baars (City, University of London) speaks to us about the long-standing interrelation between international law and (the history of) corporations and their outlook on a societies based on cooperatives, small-scale production and local direct democracy.

Terry Gill enters Order of Oranje Nassau |
|
Terry Gill, UvA professor of military law and until 1 July 2019 also professor of military law at the Netherlands Defence Academy (NLDA) was awarded the royal decoration of ‘Officer of the Order of Orange Nassau’ on the occasion of his farewell lecture from the NLDA on 19 September in Breda. The Mayor of Breda presented the decoration on behalf of the King of the Netherlands during the reception following the farewell lecture.

|
UvA / Asser / ACIL / LACMO members Berenice Boutin, Terry Gill and Tom van Engers have been awarded an NWO grant for their four-year research project ‘Agency and Compliance by Design in Military AI Technologies.’ Focussing on a human-centred approach to military AI technologies, the project seeks to explore ethical and lawful uses of AI in the military.

During this LACPO forum meeting the LACPO group will discuss the paper on the jus ad bellum in 2040 which Terry Gill recently presented at West Point, the PhD research plan of Bas van Hoek on Accountability in relation to the application of force during military missions and the procedures used in the Netherlands for monitoring and oversight as well as some current developments relating to the withdrawal of US troops along the Northern Syrian border.
