Cees Snoek (UvA IvI) Receives Three Million Dollar Subsidy for AI Research
Computer scientist Cees Snoek receives from the US government a subsidy of three million dollar for the development of artificial intelligence that can recognize, find and understand activities and objects in video images with high precision and speed.
The subsidy is used for the purchase of hard ware and the appointment of three PhD students, a postdoc and a software engineer at the Institute for Informatics.
Where current artificial intelligence focuses mainly on recognizing simple actions such as walking, jumping and skateboarding, the Amsterdam researcher hopes to extend the concept of artificial intelligence to the automatic interpretation of complex visual activities.
