Dr Bagchi's doctoral work explored how the institution of money is deeply embedded within relations of class domination and Empire and how international law legitimizes that framework. For him, international law scholarship needs to pay more attention on the crucial role of money in global capitalist relations, especially in the way it orders the distribution of wealth and resources in society. At UvA, Kanad Bagchi joins the project on ‘Decoloniality and International Law’ and is keen to take his research further on questions around the asymmetry of knowledge production, positionality, legal subordination and material redistribution. 

Prior to joining UvA Kanad Bagchi was a research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public law and International Law in Heidelberg, Germany. Kanad has a masters degree in Law and Finance (MLF) from the University of Oxford, an LL.M in International and European Law from Europa-Institute in Saarbrücken and a Bachelors in Law degree from KIIT University in India.
