Welcome Dr Frid de Vries!

Rachel Frid de Vries is a senior lecturer at Ono Academic College and a lecturer at Reichman University in Israel, teaching International Trade and EU law, Private and Public International Law. She serves as the co-President of the Israeli Association for the Study of European Integration. She is joining ACELG as a visiting researcher from March to May 2023 where she will be conducting research on dispute resolution in international high-technology related transactions.

The growth of digital economy in the last few decades has brought an increase in disputes involving questions unique to the field of high-tech. Rachel will follow and analyse, among other things, the ongoing work at The United Nations Committee on International Commercial Law (UNCITRAL) which adopted the Israeli Ministry of Justice's proposal to formulate rules for resolving disputes in technology transactions. The Israeli proposal was based on concrete needs of Israeli high-tech companies involved in international transactions. The process revealed that the existing international dispute resolution rules do not address the pace of work and the nature of the disputes in which the companies are involved.              

Rachel Frid de Vries holds a PhD from the University of Amsterdam on the EU and Global Governance. She did her post-Doctoral research on International Trade Law at the University of Michigan, in Ann Arbor USA. She served as a Senior Official at the Israeli Ministry of Justice, in charge of Israel’s policies on international trade and investment.
