Jan’s legal education includes a master’s programme at Charles University, Prague (2011, cum laude) and a research master’s programme at Tilburg University (2013, cum laude). He also holds an MSc in business administration from the University of Economics, Prague (2011).

Jan pursued his PhD at the Tilburg Law and Economics Center and partly also at the Faculty of Law, Charles University. During his doctorate, Jan was awarded visiting scholarships by the University of Lucerne and Max Planck Institute Luxembourg for Procedural Law.

After he defended his doctoral thesis in June 2017, Jan worked for several months at the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition in Munich, and spent a year at the New York University School of Law as a Post-Doctoral Emile Noël Fellow. Before joining ACELG, Jan was an assistant professor at Charles University.

Jan is currently researching distortion of competition policy by private interests. His recent working paper discusses a regulatory capture of this policy in the European Union. Jan has also written on the interaction between competition law and economics. This line of research includes an article in the Antitrust Bulletin on the role of predictability in competition law and a chapter in a Springer volume on two contexts for using economics in this legal field.
