About the project

Setting effective enforcement priorities for competition law is an essential precondition for well-functioning markets and economies. In fact, the importance of setting effective priorities is likely to increase in the next few years, as the ECN+ Directive obliges Member States to ensure and enhance the priority-setting competences of their national competition authorities. Nevertheless, the theoretical foundations and practices underlying the setting of enforcement priorities are vastly unexplored in the EU. On the basis of a novel empirical inquiry into national competition authorities’ the priority setting practices in all 28 EU Member States, the Priority Setting Project aims to fill this gap.
