Workshop: The Legacy and Future of the Mothers of Srebrenica Case

to
Kerkhof met graven van de slachtoffers van Srebrenica

On 12 November 2020, the Utrecht Centre for Accountability and Liability Law (UCALL) together with the Netherlands Institute of Human Rights (SIM), both from Utrecht University, and the Netherlands Network for Human Rights Research (NNHRR) will host the workshop on The Legacy and Future of the Mothers of Srebrenica Case.

After 12 years of litigation, on 19 July 2019 the Dutch Supreme Court rendered its final judgment on the Mothers of Srebrenica case. The case is currently pending before the European Court of Human Rights. Mothers of Srebrenica has left important footprints and triggered new questions on the issues of State responsibility and accountability, immunity, human rights and tort law. The workshop brings academics and practitioners to explore these intricate issues.

The focus of the workshop is limited to the legal issues emanating from the Mothers of Srebrenica case and does not aim to cover broader issues pertaining to Srebrenica, or the case-law of other domestic and international courts and tribunals on this topic.
