In this project Lys will comparatively study the legal regimes of freshwater, biological/genetic resources, sub-soil minerals and clean air hocusing particularly on the finer-grained categories in the normativity spectrum (e.g. jurisprudence, programs of action). More specifically, she will investigate how law responds to the actual or perceived depletion of these resources and what factors determine the choice of the regulatory response. Insights into the findings of this project can be found on her blog with the German national daily taz.

Lys holds a Ph.D. in international law from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies Geneva, an LL.M. in International law from the London School of Economics and an LL.B. in comparative and European law jointly awarded by the Universities Bremen, Oldenburg and Groningen.

Prior to joining ACIL she worked as humanitarian officer for the German Federal Foreign Office, where she was among other things in charge of innovation and digitalization in humanitarian action and served as liaison to research institutions and the private sector. She also worked in natural resources governance and post-graduate teaching.
