Secondary Liability for International Crimes in the case of Syria

ACIL/SLIC research fellow Ahmed Al Zien

ACIL/SLIC research fellow Ahmed Al Zien is conducting research within the ‘Rethinking Secondary Liability for International Crimes’ (Rethinking SLIC) project. Under the supervision of project leader Professor Göran Sluiter, he is working on a case study on Syria within the broader project. He joined a team of four PhD candidates.

I hold LL.B and LL.M degrees from Damascus University and a joint master degree from the universities of Seville, Ghent, Azores and Venice. In Syria, I worked as a lawyer and legal consultant at the Norwegian refugee council. In the Netherlands I have worked as legal researcher at PAX for peace and as a project manager for the Syria legal aid project, which is a joint venture by the War Reparations Center and the Syria Legal Network.

ACIL appeals to me since it is an important centre of expertise in the field of intentional law with diverse departments covering all areas of international law.

While I am at ACIL, I would like to increase my knowledge in international law specially in the field of international criminal law. I would also like to expand my professional network by connecting to other ACIL`s members and researchers and professionals in the research area I am involved in.
